Ponta Preta lieferte auch am zweiten Tag des SOMWR 10x Cabo Verde PWA World Cups alles, was das Herz begehrt. Perfekt geshapte, hohe Wellen, die von ablandigen Winden unterstützt wurden, sorgten für einen spektakulären Tag, der in einem spannenden Finale der Single Elimination endete. Morgan Noireaux (HI | JP / NeilPryde / Black Project) *Ergebnisse können sich noch ändern Single Elimination Bernd Roediger (Flikka / Hot Sails Maui / Black Project) looked extremely dangerous in his opening heat yesterday and the 25-year-old built upon that momentum on day two to book his place in the 4-man final. Prior to that, with 45 minute heats once again, Roediger was more than happy to patiently play the waiting game in the quarterfinals by selecting just 4 waves during that time. However, it’s quality, not quantity, and his patience paid off as he set the second highest heat score of the contest - 17.5 points - to advance into the semifinals. Roediger was more active in the semifinal and needed a late flurry of waves to edge out Boujmaa Guilloul (Goya Windsurfing) and Takuma Sugi (Tabou / GA Sails / Black Project) for the remaining place in the final. In the final, Roediger, raced into an early lead and it would be one he wouldn’t relinquish as he made the most of an important early exchange to be the only sailor to record a wave in the excellent range in the hour long final - 8.19 points. Throughout the Single Elimination, Roediger, has demonstrated, not only his wave riding prowess, but also his wave reading prowess by making sure the wave dictates what he is going to do, rather than trying to force the situation. Ultimately, the American’s free flowing style earned him his just rewards as he walks away from the Single Elimination with the top spot on the podium. Roediger will now look to defend that crown in the Double. The final proved to be an incredibly close fought affair and there was less than a point separating 1st-4th after 60 minutes of battle. In the end, Marcilio Browne (Goya Windsurfing) couldn’t quite overhaul Roediger, although there was just 0.18 of a point separating the two sailors by the time the buzzer sounded. Browne demonstrated more of his trademark, powerful wave riding and will be gunning at the bit for the Double Elimination. Thomas Traversa (Tabou / GA Sails) completes the podium in the Single Elimination - edging out Antoine Martin (Starboard / North Sails) by just 0.03 of a point, whilst only being 0.96 of a point off of victory himself. TT looked totally in tune with Ponta Preta once again as he effortlessly combined perfectly timed aerials with cutbacks in the pocket, but may have overcooked it once or twice in the final, not that you can berate him for that as he went all out in search for victory. Antoine Martin posted the highest heat score of the contest thus far during his quarterfinal - 17.76 points as the 28-year-old launched into the biggest aerials of the day with exquisite timing to leave the crowds on the beach in rapturous applause. Martin is usually a crowd pleaser and in the final, he landed a crazy one-footed aerial, but it wasn’t quite enough to force himself into the top 3. Martin also walks away with the wave of the day after being rewarded with a 9.38 point ride after punting a huge aerial. As things currently stand, local hero - Josh Angulo (Angulo) - shares joint 5th place alongside Boujmaa Guilloul (Goya Windsurfing), Morgan Noireaux (JP / NeilPryde / Black Project) and Takuma Sugi (Tabou / GA Sails / Black Project), who will be delighted with his efforts in the Single Elimination. Sugi is still only 19-years-old and was the youngest sailor to reach the top 8, whilst he was less than a point from qualifying for the final. The forecast for tomorrow predicts slightly lighter winds - 15-20 knots - whilst the swell is expected to drop from 2.6 metres @ 11 seconds to 1.8-2m @ 11 seconds, so there is a chance of starting the Double Elimination. Looking further ahead it does look like there is a possibility of a long period swell towards the end of the event, but we will just have to monitor how that forecast progresses. The sailors will meet again at 8am tomorrow morning with the action commencing from 8:30am (GMT-1) onwards.
